What qualifies a home for "luxury" status?

According to the Luxury Home Marketing Institute, the top 10% of the solds in any given area is used to determine the starting price point of a luxury property for that area. So for instance in Auburn, the price of a luxury home may have a lower starting base than in Maple Valley.Yet Bellevue or Seattle may have a starting rate higher than that found in Maple Valley. But one thing's for sure, Maple Valley property values have risen consistently above the national rate of growth for several years.This has caused many homes in Maple Valley to creep into the category of "luxury" and can certainly benefit from being listed as such.
